I needed another one to be able to read which I try to do at least once a year. Now that I have read Annemarie Selinko’s masterpiece, I would annemarje it more as a sweeping historical novel than a romance. In the end, this book was a great read. I loved that Desiree’s life entertwined Josephine’s and her family- along with all the Bonaparte’s and other significant historical characters Fouche, for one.
We encounter moments of truthful courage where Desiree speaks her opinion frankly and keeps her head high- even though she is terrified inside It’s all just too good.
