Been through approximately half of Jazzology. Transcribing tunes and solos is really important. I would give those a look as well. I’ve enjoyed the approach it has. I would like to self learn jazz and am looking for a recommendation on the best way to go about doing It. It’s important that we get such posts taken down ASAP, so in addition to reporting, please message the mods if you see someone breaking Rule 2. Ear training apps and websites here! Jazzology is a good alternative, a bit of a lighter read but still covers everything.

Some have considered it especially useful for arrangers. Good resource for learning jazz theory? Another book, “Connecting Chords With Linear Harmony”, is, perhaps, more of what you are looking for. His third book, “Comprehensive Technique for Jazz Musicians”, is more of an exercise book. Want to add to the discussion?
Which Bert Ligon book is best for studying improvisation? Great resource for basic charts, play-alongs, and ear training as it makes you learn the Heads by war.
I find rdsources way of approaching it is more of a game changer for guitar than piano, but this is the best jazz resource i’ve ever seen.

Please know that Wikipedia is especially bad ilgon music theory topics. Bert Ligon’s two volume set, “Jazz Theory Resources”, is a recommended purchase. His other book, connecting chords with linear harmony is a good, remedy against scale thinking.

I find it too Most Online 15, Mar 21st, lion Jazzology is a good alternative, a bit of a lighter read but still covers everything Bert Ligon has berrt other books, Connecting Chords With Linear Harmony and Comprehensive Technique for Jazz Musicians.
The Jazz Theory book by Mark Levine is a very well written, and easy to read, with lots of visual examples. Or by becoming a Subscribing member! The above-listed resources are a thousand times more reliable! Forums 40 TopicsPosts 2, Members 91, He also has a jazz piano book that’s top notch. Learn standards, use a fake book to help you with it but try to learn it by ear first.
