Been through approximately half of Jazzology. Transcribing tunes and solos is really important. I would give those a look as well. I’ve enjoyed the approach it has. I would like to self learn jazz and am looking for a recommendation on the best way to go about doing It. Jazzology is a good alternative, a bit of a lighter read but still covers everything.

Please know that Wikipedia is especially bad ilgon music theory topics. Bert Ligon’s two volume set, “Jazz Theory Resources”, is a recommended purchase. His other book, connecting chords with linear harmony is a good, remedy against scale thinking.
