May 29, Nate Trier rated it liked it. Even though it is now a thirty-plus year old book, it still is a worthwhile, even important read. Kasson examines the rise of Coney Island as a cu I didn’t want to write two reviews of Kasson’s works, but this one is hard to neglect.
There’s a problem loading this menu right now. Enormous fun, and educational. But it’s also really interesting to think about the high-low contrasts between things like Central Park and Coney Island, and the ideas of who is making culture for whom.
Really makes you appreciate the mindset of park patrons and what these spaces meant to them.
